SEBASTIAN GEIGER is an Energi Simulation Industrial Research Chair in Sustainable Geoenergy at Delft University of Technology.

Dr. Sebastian Geiger is a Professor of Sustainable Geoenergy at the Department of Geoscience and Engineering the Delft University of Technology. His research focuses on developing and applying agile workflows to tackle the multiple challenges inherent to characterising and modelling geologically complex, and often fractured, geoenergy reservoirs, across scales and simulating the wide range of fluid movements through them, focusing on hot water but also the movement of CO2 and hydrogen. He is also interested in how subsurface geoenergy reservoirs can be integrated into modern energy systems.

Sebastian received a PhD degree from ETH Zurich in 2004 and worked at ETH Zurich as a postdoctoral researcher. He holds an MSc degree from Oregon State University (2000) and a Vordiplom (equivalent to BSc degree) from the University of Freiburg, Germany (1997). He joined Heriot-Watt University in 2006 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009. In 2010, aged 36 years, he became a Full Professor and Energi Simulation Chair, making him the youngest-ever full professor at the Institute of Geoenergy Engineering (then Institute of Petroleum Engineering) and one of the youngest-ever full professors in engineering in the UK.
