Project Amigo: Feasibility Study of CCS in Depleted Gas Reservoir
Project Amigo is a CCS project designed to permanently store CO2 in a depleted gas carbonate reservoir in Alberta, Canada. This two-year project is funded by DOE and ERA, and the work is shared among GLJ, Peyto (operator), U of A and NETL. The work focuses on the following aspects associated with CO2 injection: (1) reservoir characterization through static and dynamic modelling, as well as core analysis; (2) risk assessment related to legacy well integrity, geomechanical stability, and thermal effects; (3) public and stakeholder engagement. The estimated CO2 storage capacity is calculated to exceed 100 Mt. The technical findings from this collaborative study provides valuable insights and practical guidelines for evaluating CCS in large depleted gas reservoirs, supporting regulators and operators in mitigating and managing risks in similar projects.
